The Holy Gray
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!! This column is kind of a "part two" to last week's column. I
spoke with a reader regarding Indiana's law allowing business owners to
decide who to serve. This turned into a religious war of sorts and drew
in the homosexuals as well as the Mexicans. She (the reader) thought
there was a lot of "gray area" - religiously speaking. So - I went in
search of what I called "the Holy Gray." No offense to anyone. A
business woman in Indiana said her Christian beliefs would not allow
her to serve homosexuals. That sparked a word-war using phrases like -
"love thy neighbor" , "do not judge", etc. These are pretty standard in
a religiously-themed skirmish. The following is from the King James
Bible (which is supposed to be "the standard.") Here's what I found.
See what you think.
Genesis 4:9 - And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel, thy brother?
And he said, I know not. Am I my brother's keeper?
Genesis 4:10 - And He (God) said, what hast thou done? the voice of thy
brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground? (I kinda wonder how
much blood cries to this God now. Cain's answer was to get him out of
trouble. ..which shows he knew he had acted wrongly.)
Galatians 6:1 - Brethren, if a man (or woman) be overtaken in a fault
(wrongdoing), ye which are spiritual (or able) restore such a one in
the spirit of meekness (or calmly, not pridefully), considering thyself
(looking to your own weaknesses), lest thou also be tempted.
Galatians 5:7 - Ye did run (or live your life - other scripture speaks
of us all "running the race" or living your life) well, who did hinder
thou that ye should not obey the truth?
Galatians 5:9 - A little leaven (yeast) leaveneth (like yeast makes
bread rise or bigger) the whole lump (or makes the bad action worse).
Matthew 18:15 - Moreover if thy brother (or sister) trespass against
thee, go to him/her alone, if he/she shall hear thee, thou hast gained
(or kept) thy brother.
1 Timothy 5:20 - Them that sin (or hurt you), rebuke (or let know how
they hurt you) before all, that others may fear (and not commit similar
or other crimes.)
1 Corinthians 5: 1,2 - It is reported commonly that there is a
fornication among you, and such as is not so much as named
(allowable) among the Gentiles (non-Jews. The Jews were supposed to
have already known.), that one should not have his Father's wife
(Leviticus 18:21, 20:11 Deuteronomy 22:30, 27:20)
To restore (or work out a solution that puts all concerned in right
standing with God and other people) the people:
Matthew 18:21 - Then came Peter to him (Jesus) and said, Lord, how oft
(often) shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven
times? (This is among people who really want to follow these teachings
and not play games. Read the next verse if you like.).
2 Thessalonians 3:15 - Yet count him/her (this is someone who desires
to follow the teachings) not as an enemy, but admonish (or remind
him/her of the wrongdoing) as a brother/sister.
There are many more verses than I have space for in this column. As I
put this column together, I thought the Bible is really laid out pretty
well. I've heard that King James told the printers what to write in it
and this made God not the "author." In that sense, I think King James
did a good job. We all know not to lie (have sex) with our parents,
family, animals, same-sex (In Genesis 1:28 - God said for Adam and Eve
to be fruitful and multiply), etc. And we all know how it feels to be
lied to, cheated on, etc. So whether or not we take this God into
account or not - we can still do the right thing, can't we? When we
rail against laws - is that really like saying "I know not. Am I my
brother's keeper?"
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
