Virginia's Knowledge
By Mona Lease

Hi, all!! It had been a while and I was beginning to wonder if I would see Virginia. And just like that - she surprised me with a short visit.

She asked me if I had thought about last week's column - about Elle. OK - no disrespect, Virginia but, - Duh - I wrote it. Then I remembered Virginia's ways. ..think harder. OK - I don't get it. She told me to think backwards - what?!! OK - Elle died - I spoke with Elle five days before she died. She still knew me and ...click!!

Elle still remembered me because of our regular talks - because I valued her input - because she knew she was helping me - which helped some of you readers. And, because it made her feel useful...that all of her knowledge made a difference. Also - I think that since she gave up her Driver's License (health issues) - it helped her feel "connected" to the outside world. Through this - she still had her dignity. So, Virginia - Is your point here that is was all pretty simple - a few phone calls and listening with both ears? Yes - that's the point. And with one of her sideways hugs - she was gone. So now the score is probably Virginia 4 Mona 0. You'd think I'd learn - wouldn't ya? And in that misty-eyed kind of way -

I ran into a colleague at a local store. We exchanged our usual pleasantries and banter. Before we parted, he said I was crazy and that's why he liked speaking with me. And I would like to state that people think he is crazy - crazy for not lying down and saying he is finished - that he is not "able" to things. He now works two jobs!  Bravo Zulu, George!!

Don't put away the Kleenex yet. My niece had her first child - a girl. At her baby shower last December, the concensus was that she was carrying the baby low - that surely meant it was a boy. I asked - "What if it's a girl and she chose the "bottom bunk?" That got me a lot of sour looks! Sometimes - I just gotta bet against the house - pun intended!

Congrats to my niece and welcome to the world - Emery Grace!  Sorry the world is not perfect. You arrived the day after we buried my Aunt. And - since you've shown us that you had a surprise up your sleeve before you were born - (by choosing the bottom bunk) - you're probably going to have a big hand in solving some of our problems! To my niece - The best is yet to be. You get to walk with this new life through this world and guide her in wisdom and truth.

Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
