A Kid and a Pope
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!! I've been watching a Grandmother (who has custody of her
(grandkiddies) manipulate the Father of the grandkiddies. He is not
allowed to throw a football with them or interact with them. He is good
enough to be allowed to drop the kiddies off after school. You can be
sure he is allowed (and made) to pay child support. I watched, for
myself, this Father be run off by the Police three times in the last
month. (In my mind, this kiddie is a good candidate for the heroin
needle soon - he's 13.). You know if it were a real criminal offense,
he would have been taken away in handcuffs.
And I read that Raul Castro - Cuba's leader - went to the Vatican to
speak with Pope Francis. About what? Why - restoring diplomatic
relations - full diplomatic relations - with the USA. That would mean
Cuba has a "home" in Washington, DC and the USA has a "home" in Havana.
Sometime past, Raul Castro and our own Barack Obama met in Cuba to work
out the dispute between the two countries. It did not turn out well.
Now - I wonder. Behind the Vatican walls - somewhere in a private room
- maybe over some wine or water - with cigars or toothpicks - is it
possible that Pope Francis told Raul Castro to restore diplomatic
relations with the USA? Is it possible that Pope Francis said that not
all of us Americans are bad? Do you think he told Raul not to judge our
entire populace by our President Obama? (Obama never would reveal how
his face-to-face meeting with Raul really went.). We really only know
that Cuba still has no "home" here and the USA still has no "home"
there. Do you suppose that Pope Francis told Raul that Obama only has a
short time left as President - that if full diplomatic relations are
restored, Raul would only need to "put up with it" for a short while?
Is it possible that Pope Francis told Raul to think it all over and
they would talk of it all again when Pope Francis goes to Cuba this
September? I find it interesting that the Pope spoke with Raul in the
Vatican and is going to Cuba. Does the Pope find more hope in Raul
Castro?
After the above - which sickens me - I'll leave you with a recipe to
sip while you think on the above situations.
Sassafras Spring Tonic
This is a good tonic to use in the spring as it thins out the blood as
well as adds needed minerals. Sassafras has been used for centuries as
a spring tonic. Try it - it's delicious.
To make the tea, add several teaspoons (3-4 teaspoons) of sassafras
root or bark to two cups of boiling water. Allow to steep for 15
minutes. Strain and sweeten. Drink several cups (3-4) a day for one
week. No more than a week.
My maternal Grandmother used to drink this tea. I was really young -
maybe four or five years old. I drank it with her a few times. I
remember her telling me you do not drink the tea continuously. We
laughed, talked, and drank the sweetened tea. Maybe the tea really does
help the body. It's a good memory of her, me, and the tea in a
farmhouse kitchen around an old table.
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
