Dennis Gray
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!! I hope you all enjoyed the Thanksgiving dinners with family
and friends. I did a little checking on this "Thanksgiving" idea. It
seems that there has always been a party - if you will - when the crops
were taken in from the fields. Most people had some sort of
celebration, giving thanks to the god or gods for another year that
held fertile fields, good rains, and healthy workers to tend and reap
the crops. If it rained - you had found favor with the gods. If it did
not rain - someone had greatly displeased one or more or all of the
gods. These people could not believe that there could be one god that
was great enough or powerful enough to see to, care for, and "fix" all
of the problems with land, water, air, animals, trees/crops, and
people. That being said -
I've been watching the many decorations being hung - everywhere -
before Thanksgiving!! Which got me to wondering: "Are we hanging the
decorations early because we want the "holiday feelings?" You know -
everyone is usually all smiles - all happy - life is good. I
never really hear too much complaining at this time of the year. I hear
"For Christmas I want this or that."
I googled Thanksgiving and Christmas. I found that few agree on much of
anything about the origins of either. Most agree on the dates - the
fourth Thursday of November for Thanksgiving and the 25th of December
for Christmas. All agree the holidays should be on the above dates. And
enough people agree that Black Friday is big enough that a Black
Wednesday is now observed in the bigger cities. And like any other "big
spending" time of year, we have a new caller on the scene. On the
answering machine I heard: "Hi. This message is intended to contact
you. My name is Dennis Gray. And I am calling regarding an enforcement
action executed by the US Treasury intending your serious action.
Ignoring this will be a serious second attempt to avoid an initial
appearance before a Magistrate Judge or a Federal Grand Jury. Do not
ignore this message. Help us help you." He says to call him at another
number. He has changed the number twice. And he leaves a third
call-back number.
I draw your attention to: a)No name is mentioned to tell you to whom he
is speaking. b)No "crime" is cited. c)He uses names like "US Treasury"
and "Magistrate Judge." d)He says things like "enforcement action" and
"executed"...which sound imposing and scary...like what he says has
really happened.
In this world of hustle and bustle - do not fall for this. Again - our
"US Government" will not call you. And if they did (which they will
not) - they would know your name and tell you your crime.
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and friendly ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
