Whose House Is
It?
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!! I've been seeing this a lot lately: "As for me and my house,
we will serve the Lord." I've seen it on facebook, in the newspapers,
heard it on the radio, etc. I've wondered what that actually means.
When I was raising my son - it was "my house." My name was on the
title. My name was on the lot I rented. My name was on the insurance.
My name was on the electric/propane bills. My name was on the titles to
the car and truck that got us where we needed to go to
pay bills, etc. If anything happened - it was my name - me that would
answer to said occurrence.
Recently I had a phone call - actually I've had a number of them. The
callers have explained that their children and grandchildren live with
them. They come and go as they please - go out and drink/do drugs. They
come "home" whenever and lie in front of the tv and computer. One
grandchild dirties the dishes, laundry, etc and the grandmother cleans
it. (She is in failing health herself.). But no one is saying anything
to the kiddies themselves.
At what point did we - as parents, grandparents, or even neighbors -
give up our rights? (Refer back to last week's column.). When did we
decide that another human being - that does not work - had the right to
tell us what they were going to do while they lived under our roof -
however old they are? When was it decided for us that someone who is -
say - 14 years old - who has no experience in life (work, death, acute
illness, etc.) can decide for themselves when to work, go to school,
play, what to eat, etc? (When was the last time you saw a kiddie
pulling weeds, raking anything, or shoveling? Who decided that sweating
was a bad thing?). When given a choice - we will all opt for "happy fun
time - no sickness - good weather - calm seas." But, it does not work
that way. Sorry to be the "bubble-burster" but - rain makes the flowers
grow, sunshine gives us heat and vitamin D, sorrow shows us how good
joy feels, hate points to what love can heal - you get the idea here.
Now - I read that "we" (President? - Congress?) sold "our" Waldorf
Astoria to China. I never voted for the sale or saw where you could
vote. I never received any money, either. And "we're" (again -
President? - Congress? - Senate?) deciding whether to let illegal
aliens back across our borders because they have children that were
born here - living here. (Someone here in the USA agreed to contribute
to that, by the way - or you would be hearing the word rape mentioned.).
I'm not sure it's the "latest news" but, it is an "attention-grabber"
to me. Pope Francis has been quoted by various media as saying: (my
words): Look world - see Raul Castro and Barack Obama as they work out
their differences. (Which is good. Keep reading.).
My problem here is: How many problems do "we" have that "we" can't seem
to fix? Do "we" need the world looking at us with our high
teen/untimely pregnancy rate, out higher heroin addictions, our high
unemployment rate, etc?
When we exchanged the four (five?) pows for the one American pow -
Syria told us "Do not come back." That was aired on national
television. Also, our consulate there was bombed and destroyed.
I've never heard where the USA has ever bought another country's
historic memorabilia.
We buy what China ships over here to our stores like there is no other
choice. We have young girls with skirts up to their "uh-huh" and tops
cut down their "rut-row." I see girls with more colors in their hair
than a rainbow could make. Girls (and some guys) wear more eyeliner
than the paintings in an Egyptian King's tomb. I shudder and cringe. Is
it just me? When the Chinese (and all else) watch us go about our daily
lives - do they laugh at us? We have bought a good 80% of our problems.
Of that 80% - how much went to the Chinese? Really - all we ever had to
do is say: "It is my house and the answer is no."
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
