Darke County Senior Scribe
Those “Taxing”
Days
By Lois Wilson
Once again Senior Scribe Poet Laureate Lois Wilson is on top of the
season with her insightful look at the important events of the day.
This time it’s tax day. Wilson offers four poems, each addressing a
different look at how our financial contributions to government are
approached. From her lead-off Against their Will to her closing gambit
with Upshot, she covers our reactions quite nicely.
Wilson's completed set - five volumes - of published poetry is now
available and is offered as a fundraiser for the Senior Scribes
Scholarship Fund. Enjoy great poetry and help a local youngster attend
college. For additional information, contact

AGAINST THEIR WILL
There are those who plan and strive
Through the years that they’re alive
To leave something to their heirs—
An estate to help ease cares.
They can’t reach the desired goal,
And it truly pains their soul.
The only legacy heirs will get
Is the humongous national debt!

BACKUP PLAN
Some studies of our struggling nation
Have found that overregulation
And the burden of high taxation
Caused economic strangulation.
If both were given relaxation,
Business could reap the stimulation
And boost the country’s job creation.

1040 SOS
Tax time, budget breaks
Diving down to naught.
They've got what it takes
To take what we’ve got!

UPSHOT
There are those who shrewdly claim
It might be a surer aim,
And we wouldn’t feel like fools
If the folks who make the rules
Also play the game.
