Labor Day!
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!! It's that time of year - the unofficial end. The unofficial
end of summer - of the boating season. The unofficial end of lazy days
with no teachers - no homework and no "those of us" who seemingly
continually ask if the homework is done...is there homework??
I've been listening to those who wonder about friends - about how close
friends should be to each other. I submit the following for you readers
to consider - and to put a little humor in our lives as we look to
another school year of "new shoes/clothes, homework, tests, trips,
etc." Be safe - watch out for the cycles, bicycles, buses, and walking
kiddies.
The Story of the Nonconforming Sparrow: Once upon a time there was a
nonconforming sparrow who decided not to fly south for the winter.
However, soon the weather turned so cold that he reluctantly
started to fly south. In a short time ice started to form on his wings
and he fell to the earth and landed in a barnyard, almost frozen. A cow
passed by and crapped on the little sparrow. The sparrow thought it was
the end. But the manure warmed him and defrosted his wings. Warm and
happy, able to breathe, he started to sing. Just then a cat was walking
by and heard the chirping. The cat investigated the sounds, found the
chirping sparrow and promptly ate him.
There are three morals to this story.
1) Everyone who craps on you is not necessarily your enemy.
2) Everyone who gets you out of the crap is not necessarily your
friend.
3) If you are warm and happy in your pile of crap - keep your mouth
shut!!
Sorry this is a short column, I figured you readers could use the extra
time to relax before we "get back in the saddle" of extra work hours,
trying to help the kiddies learn the "new math", etc.
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
