Darke County
Poet Laureate’s sixth book now available
First book out of print; books 2-6 package available
By Lois Wilson
Give a gift and you give again to the Darke County Scholarship Fund
which helps some of our county’s youth planning to attend college. I’ll
tell you how later.
I began writing verse in grade school. Poetry fascinated me. I had
things I wanted to say and doing it in rhyme was fun and challenging. I
put my poetry aside for several years as family and finishing college
degrees took priority. Later, I had an occasional verse published and
performed poetry readings of favorite poets’ works such as Paul
Lawrence Dunbar (in dialect as written—not PC today.)
Retired from my educational career, I responded to an invitation from
Lyn Bliss to write some verse for a seniors’ page being developed by
the then editor of The Daily Advocate, Bob Robinson. My poems have also
appeared on the senior page of The Early Bird publication. I try to
interpret life’s events, mostly in rhyme, in a natural way as one would
speak. My verse has been compiled into books. Each contains 70 to 90+
verses. The books available are: As Days Go By (verses of growing-up
with the hope of growing wiser), The Seasoned Eye (observations of
personal interests and life situations), Reach for the Sky (verses of
inspiration, faith, life and nature), Along Life’s Way (a
potpourri of verses inspired by life’s journey). My latest book Living
Each Daylike the others has humorous and serious poems. It also has a
personal short story. Its subtitle: Look, Listen, Love, Laugh, Learn
implies ways we cope and aspire to live each day to the fullest. Below
are two verses from this book.
For each donation of $5.00 to the Darke County Scholarship Fund up to
$20, you receive a book of my verse. For a donation of $25.00 or more,
you receive the set of all five books. So you have a gift to give, and
your donation gives to a Darke County fund to benefit students.

A limerick:
“NO” WIN
He asked, cloaked in vanity,
“Do you love me? Can it be?
Will you wed me? Be my bride?”
The girl gasped and then replied,
“That would be insanity!”
My hope for
all:
A NEW DAWN
You face a spell
Where deeds don’t gel.
Life seems adrift,
But tides do shift
And fears do quell.
Then you can tell
As spirits lift—
Each day’s a gift
So live it well.
