Walls
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!! I am drawing the following to your attention so that you
might come to a more informed opinion.
Regarding an article in the Greenville Daily Advocate reporting a
conversation between Pope Francis and Donald Trump. Trump wants to
build a wall between the USA and Mexico from Texas to California and
expel 11 million illegals from the US - if he is elected President.
Pope Francis said Trump is not "Christian" if he wants to build a wall.
Pope Francis said building walls is not in the Gospels. Trump responded
by saying that Pope Francis was disgraceful by being a religious leader
and questioning a person's faith. Take a deep breath,
readers. We're gonna go deeper.
The Catholic Bible has the same books as the King James Bible, the NIV
Version, the Revised King James Bible - that I checked - plus seven
more books in the Old Testament. Those added books are: Tobit, Judith,
1&2 Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach, and Baruch. Read Tobit. You can read
all of these online.
The Catholic Bible is broken down into the following categories (I'm
only using the New Testament for reasons of space.): Gospels: Matthew,
Mark, Luke, John and Acts....NT Letters: Romans, 1&2 Corinthians,
Galatians, Ephesians, Philipians, Colossians, 1&2 Thessalonians,
Titus, Philemon, and Hebrews....Catholic Letters: James, 1&2 Peter,
1,2,&3 John, Jude, and Revelation. (Take another deep breath.)
NO - in the Gospels - there were no walls built (that I read). They
were built in the Old Testament. In the book of Nehemiah (an historical
book) - Nehemiah and Ezra rebuilt the wall around Jerusalem - "...He
repaired the breaches in the wall and set up guards to defend against
the constant threat of those who opposed their efforts." This was in
the 5th Century.
Walls, in history, were erected to put a boundary around the city. At
the gates were elders. Their job was to "screen" those who wanted to
come into the city to visit family or friends, bring in goods to sell
or trade, spend a safe day or two resting before the traveler continued
on his journey. The Berlin Wall was erected in Germany in 1961. Now -
the Berlin Wall was erected under "cold war" circumstances...the result
was the same...keep "undesirables" out and those you wanted to
"protect" inside the wall.
In the New Testament, however: Matthew 10:14 says - "And whosoever
shall not receive you, not hear your words, when ye depart out of the
house or city, shake off the dust of your feet." Granted this has to do
with "spreading the words of Jesus." But consider it and
2Thessalonians 3:8 - Warning Against Idleness: "No we did not eat
anyone's bread without paying for it, but with labor and hardship, we
kept working night and day so that we would not be a burden to any of
you."
I put this together to show you readers that you have to put the Bible
together - all of it together. One part alone always sounds good
- and right....until you look a little deeper. Search this out
for yourselves...consider all of the implications.
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
