My Hamel
By Bev Hughes
Attackers, linked to the Islamic State terror group, took hostages at a
church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, in France's northwest region,
during morning Mass. Rev. Jacques Hamel, 85, was killed. This latest
terrorist attack elicited the following from County News Online reader
Bev Hughes…
My Hamel
He awoke to a light meal
Another chance to serve the morning Mass
Only a stand-in.
Why ask me? I’m old. I’m tired.
But oh the joy of the Elements!
The sharing and consuming and becoming
Our Lord Christ
In such a world.
My Hamel, today is your crowning day!
Your aching bones will serve you well
Your weary mind will leap with litany
Remembered, lived
Bless My people, they are weary, too.
Remember the days I have given you
The thousands of faces, the millions of prayers
I know them, each one.
Hamel smiles, feels vigor, virtue
Hamel bows his hoary head, feels humility
The Great Christ would pat his shoulder, hold his heart
So, today, My Hamel, I grant you
Strength of spirit on your crowning Mass,
Here’s a twinkle for your eyes,
Here’s the breath for the song
Your next song will be with My angels
I grant you joy as you kneel in My presence,
You will awake in My arms
For My love never fails.
Your enemies, My enemies leer at your old face
And have seen the face of God
Your crown awaits.
