While illustrating children’s author, Sue Hart’s book, “Bless Your
Little Heart”, I spotted a spider who had taken up residence in my
laundry-room window. My usual impulse would have been to grab the
nearest fly-swatter, and--smack! no more spider! For some unknown
reason, instead of killing it, I began to observe it. Observing then
changed to sketching, and before I knew it, I had given him a name:
Leroy! In time, the sketches evolved into the first of 6 books--with
more coming--named “Leroy Baxter, the Near-Sighted Spider.
