Old Wars and
Dead Horses
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!! With all of the hype around our current Presidential Election
- I got to thinking. Racial prejudice, slavery, health care and such,
are the hot topics that drew my attention. Oh - and building a wall.
I'll start with the wall-building.
Germany tried that - Hitler, actually. The wall was built and armed
guards were posted at the wall around the clock - with floodlights set
up for easy visibility at night. And there were "guards" watching the
guards. A couple of people I've spoken with who were at the Wall said:
"It was eerie. We were armed....shoot to kill anyone who tries to leave
(Hitler's side), were our orders. We had binoculars for identification.
We watched the Russians watch us."
The Wall was up some 50 years before it was decided that it was not
needed - it had actually become a pain....so, down it came, with a
portion of it left erected, along with a gas chamber or two. Maybe
those articles were left to remind us of how ugly life can get if we
let it....is what I believe. Seriously - Hitler thought he was
safe....until he heard Russia was on their way. Down he went into his
cushy bunker with his wife and dog. They took cyanide capsules...the
dog, too...while Russia carpet-bombed. You could say that Hitler backed
himself and others into a "corner"...with no way to escape. (He could
have stopped his actions at any point, by the way.)
Hillary Clinton's healthcare bill: We said no, we did not want that
when Bill Clinton was President. Do we really need to keep saying no to
this? Aren't there more important issues? Isn't this "fight" some 25
years old now?
Slavery and racial prejudice: Racial prejudice has always existed and
probably always will - as long as someone keeps saying and believing
that they got the short end of the stick....and money or fame will fix
it. Ronald Reagan was an actor and made it all the way to the US
Presidency. There's money and fame. He died not knowing who he was or
that he had any money. Slavery has always had the spotlight in a
negative way. When Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery, the Plantation
Masters told the slaves they were free to leave. Some did leave. Most
stayed on the Plantation - it was their home. They were treated well.
They were protected. Some Masters has previously sent slaves to college
to become Drs, Attorneys and the like.
In the USA's history: People came here because of religious persecution
- you went to the church in your neighborhood...period. You were there
at a specified time. And you gave the church the money they requested.
Other countries had no food because of a famine - food rotted in the
field or the land simply would not produce. Still other countries told
you how much money you could make and how or where you could spend it.
The USA was "free game" as it were...you just had to work. You could go
where you wanted - when you wanted - buy however much land you wanted -
sell it to whomever - or give it to whomever.
Recap: In this modern age of higher education...airplane
travel...medicine to save our "younguns and elders"...fire/disaster
control....Aren't we fighting wars that were already fought???
Seriously - wasn't the Civil War...twixt the North and South - proof
that we need each other? Every time we go over these same issues -
aren't we really "beating a dead horse?" All of the blood that's been
shed for these issues - if we could speak with those who shed it - what
would they say? Would they tell us to keep fighting these same issues?
Or would they tell us to enjoy all of the freedoms that their shed
blood bought?
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA,
