Remember When…
Beautiful Ohio
By Kim Smith
I am going to wander down a different path in this column: the beauty
of Ohio.
I have lived in five different states: Illinois, Oregon, California,
Arkansas and Ohio. I have also traveled all over the country, including
the state of Hawaii. Each and every state in this country has something
unique and breath-taking to offer those fortunate enough to be able to
explore its bounty.
Years ago, a relative commented on how boring Ohio was to her. I
remained silent simply because I was too surprised to respond. Let’s
take a stroll through Ohio now, and see if you agree with her.
It was early in the morning, two days ago, that my husband and I were
driving down some winding country roads. West of us lay a dark pattern
of clouds, the height of a mountain-range. We looked at each other,
smiled, and said, “We don’t have to travel to Wyoming. There it is!” In
the east, the sun was arising from bed. As he stretched his arms high
up into the sky and yawned, he kissed the tops of fluffy, gray clouds,
and there appeared piles of snow! Again, we looked at each other,
smiled, and
said, “We don’t have to travel to Washington state! There’s Mount
Rainer!” Oh, how we were blessed to see such beauty! And In Ohio!
In the Summer, Ohio explodes with lush fields of emerald green corn and
beans. As Summer strolls along, wheat fields are transformed from green
to golden yellow. Once harvested, a feast for the eyes appears: large
and golden rolls of straw, scattered across the fields. As the sun’s
rays filter through the clouds, the rolls of straw appear bright gold,
or laying in shadow.
To be continued…
Blessing to all!
