"Earlin' It"
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!! You faithful readers (thanks, much!!) know my mind is like a
train - always picking up new ideas. Some of these I apply to my life -
some I keep for laughs - some... are not so many laughs.
I view Netflix. You need internet service for this. And you have to pay
Netflix separately. You fill out a profile - name, material you like to
view....documentary...sci-fi...comedy, etc. When you view it, it
(Netflix computer at large) will add similar material for your viewing
pleasure, as a new option. And this is how I started watching "My Name
is Earl."
Age means nothing to me. I'm 56 - which proves I did have the ability
to make - and did make - a few good decisions. I've made a few dumb
ones, too. At the age of 17 - I probably should not have sold my 1963
Buick Special car...3 speed on the column...6 cylinder...$6.00 to fill
the gas tank in 1976...gas was somewhere around $.87 a gallon.
I've never banged (slang for "shooting up") a drug-laden needle into
any part of myself - vein or not. I've steered clear of those
situations. And so can those of you who like the "snakebite" (pain of a
needle's entry into your body - usually a vein). There is an entire
world out there to see and experience....new people...new places...new
food...new ideas...new jobs...new places to camp...new places to fish
and new fish to catch...the possibilities are endless. The only thing
to stop this would be the words "felon"..."junkie"..."addict" attached
to your name. The top of the mountains in Tennessee are
beautiful...clean air...clear ponds...and I've seen the "purple
mountain's majesty" during a sunset. ...for real, in person!!!
I started watching "My Name is Earl" on Netflix. You start watching the
pilot episode and it will keep moving to the next episode until you
stop it. Earl finally figured out that "he" was causing all of is
problems ..."Do bad things and bad thing happen to you. Do good things
and good things happen to you." He called it karma. He bought a lottery
ticket - scratched it off outside - and won $100,000.00. While he was
jumping and hollering - he jumped and hollered himself into the street
- where he was hit by a car. He dropped the winning ticket - which was
blown away by the wind - and he landed in the hospital with a leg in
traction. That got him to thinking about all the wrong he had done in
his life and he vowed to "fix" all of the wrongs - one by one. My
personal favorite episode is where he broke his ex-wife's fancy
figurine when they were married. He thought he could just go buy
another one. Wrong. The ex-wife had won the figurine in a
Mother/Daughter talent show. The moral here is that there are some
things that money can not fix or buy.
I've started applying this principle to my life to see what would
happen. The results have been amazing - wish I had had a camera with me
for a couple of the responses!!
Now - I realize that this is just show-business - Hollywood - just a
sitcom to make money. Or is it??
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
