Darke County Senior Scribe
Springs brings graduation... a sense of fulfillment
By Lois Wilson

Once again Senior Scribe Poet Laureate Lois Wilson is on top of the season with her insightful look at the important events of the day.

This time it’s graduation. Wilson offers three poems, each addressing a different look at the annual graduation from educational endeavors. Check them out… Degrees of Dryness, Commencement and Fulfillment.

Wilson's completed set - five volumes - of published poetry is now available and is offered as a fundraiser for the Senior Scribes Scholarship Fund. Enjoy great poetry and help a local youngster attend college. For additional information, contact editor@countynewsonline.org.

DEGREES OF DRYNESS

In the senior population,
People value education.
We cherish celebration
And attend each graduation
For every generation.
We've heard slants on salutation
And dull stabs at grand oration.
Oh we stayed through the duration—
But we prayed for termination.

COMMENCEMENT

He had earned his degree;
He had done what he should,
It was easy to see
That his life was not good.

Asking, “What did I get?”
He would stifle a sob.
“There’s a huge college debt,
But I still have no job.”

He thought outside the box;
Got a job by this whim.
From the School of Hard Knocks—
Graduation for him!

FULFILLMENT

Try to have a dream in your heart
And consider it as a start.
Dismiss any thoughts of failing;
Keep your goal on its unveiling.
Nurture the dream, and it will flower;
Help it grow to achievement hour.
And when your dream’s success is won,
Fill your heart with another one.
