Darke County Senior Scribe
Be Thankful
this Thanksgiving
By Lois Wilson
Once again Senior Scribe Poet Laureate Lois Wilson is on top of the
season with her insightful look at the important events of the day.
This time it’s Thanksgiving. And Lois’ focus or course? Our national
bird (at Thanksgiving)… the turkey! There seemed to be some confusion
at the White House, though. There was a “pardon” and the lucky turkey
returned home to tell the tale.
Wilson's completed set - five volumes - of published poetry is
available and is offered as a fundraiser for the Darke County
Scholarship Fund. Some editions are running low, said put in your
request soon. A sixth edition is currently at the printer. Enjoy great
poetry and help a local youngster attend college. For additional
information, contact editor@countynewsonline.org.
EMBLEMATIC
One fact that is not murky;
Although it sure seems quirky.
On each Thanksgiving Day
Throughout the U. S. A.,
Our national bird is the turkey.

A FOWL DINNER
Tom Turkey bragged, “Can you believe it?
I’ve been invited to the White House!”
Dolly Duck screamed as she threw a fit,
“That’s Thanksgiving, and they don’t serve grouse.
I sure don’t want to beat a dead horse,
But you’ll end up being the main course.”
Tom replied, “Don’t be silly—I’ll go.”
As the day neared, his resolve hardened.
He returned to make Dolly eat crow
And boasted how he had been pardoned,
“The trip brought me only good luck—
Their entrée? A delicious roast duck!”
