Glad I am old
By Sharon Hopper
I have been thinking about a lot of things this past year. I found out
that my husband had (as the doctor put it) serious heart failure and
for some time after the stent was inserted he was just a shadow of
himself. Then he decided that there was work that had to be done like
grass mowing and gardening and he said that it would strengthen his
heart. So off he went and for some time seemed to get a lot better.
Then I hurt my back in May and have been limping along with a cane and
in pain most of the summer and now I could be facing back surgery,
which I am not looking forward to having. It has been a most terrible
summer and I have had the pleasure of putting up lots of vegetables for
the winter thanks to Mr. Hopper and his garden. Good thing my kitchen
is small and I can lean on counters a lot.
Of course there are blessings in the midst of trouble. My sons have
been great and have made sure that we are getting along and helping out
with things we just cannot do. But most of all they have made
themselves available to us. And we have avoided regular ailments like
colds, flu, and other infectious ailments.
Now I wonder what is going to happen to us all if we put the wrong
person in office. Will the Supreme Court have free reign to remove the
few rights we have left, like the privacy of going to the ladies or
mens room? I understand that it is going to be impossible to wear the
lapel pin of the flag of our country because it could offend someone.
GOLLY!!!!!! What about the millions of us who think we should be able
to wear such pin as a show of support for our country. I guess we are
not capable of being offended. And now they want to remove the Star
Spangled Banner from the start of sporting events. I am Offended that I
cannot stand for my country and give those protecting it a standing
salute and expression of freedom before a large crowd at a football
game because it could offend someone.
And if a man wants to sit on his duff during the National Anthem let
him. He is the one making a fool of himself. He may have his reasons,
but I have mine for standing in reverence and respect. I watched a
program where a man went into a city and asked young people a series of
questions about the election we are having and I was appalled at the
answers that were given. These people are going to elect our next
president. How appalling. Many do not have clue as to the seriousness
of this election. Everyone talks about the need for jobs. What we
really need is a law to get people off of the free money that they are
receiving. Why vote for jobs when you can stay at home and live rather
well. I don’t know about you but I read the figures for those who are
not working and the benefits they receive and we live on 35,000 a year
and pay all of our own bills including Dr. bills. Fair? Hell no! But it
is true that way to many are catching a free ride while old people
struggle to live and buy medicine. Yep I think we need some more
government and stupid rules to live by. (That is meant to be a pun) And
we definitely need more refugees to house and take care of. (Pun also)
We are heading for a disaster and there are few people listening or
heeding the warnings. GLAD I am OLD.
My future is already decided and it is going to be wonderful compared
to the lives of our young people.
