An Acid Test
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!! I have a couple of friends who have been diagnosed with
cancer. One said she's going to let the lung cancer take her. The other
one had reconstructive surgery to the face (sinus cancer) and is now
minus an eye. What do you say here?? What do you do?? Maybe the answer
is as simple as the following:
True friendship isn't who you have known the longest...it's who showed
up when you needed them most. It's who listens to understand you and
not just to reply. It's someone who helps you without an agenda. They
are the people who believe in you, encourage you, and love you. They
are honest, loyal, and thoughtful. True friends make time for you...not
excuses. They are the ones you can spend time with making
memories...yet also go a while without seeing them and nothing has
changed.
An old Cherokee is teaching his Grandson about life. "A fight is going
on inside of me," he said to the boy. It is a terrible fight between
two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed,
arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false
pride, superiority, and ego. He continued. The other is good - he is
joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence,
empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is
going on inside of you and every other person, too. The Grandson
thought about it for a minute and then asked his Grandfather, "Which
wolf will win?" The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."
To those who have hurt me - Thank you! You have made me a stronger
person. You have made me see what I do not want. You showed me what I
need. To those who love me - Thank you! You made me see what love
really is. You made my heart a little bigger. To those who believe in
me - Thank you! You made me feel "worth it." You helped me to believe
in myself. You helped me to be who I am today. To those who stay in my
life - Thank you! You've taught me the meaning of loyalty. You've
helped me to break down my walls. You've shown me what true friendship
really is. Thank you.
My love is free but, my trust is earned. Do not mistake my kindness for
weakness because integrity is my greatest strength.
Little hugs can dry big tears. Little candles can light the darkness.
Little memories can last for years. It's the little things in life that
bring the greatest happiness.
I know you are tired. I know you are physically and emotionally
drained. But, you have to keep going.
When you have a friend who checks on you and wants nothing but the best
for you without motives....keep them dear. Such souls are rare. Thanks
for reading.
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!!! MONA
