Of School and
Mom
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!! Again - it's that time of year. As I pen this - school has
officially started. It's time to get "in the groove" of early to
bed...early to rise...school...homework...dinner...outside
time...computer/tv time...bath time...bedtime. Whew...where did summer
go? How do we fit it all in our schedule?
It's also time to watch out for school buses...kiddies
walking...kiddies riding bicycles to school and the like. They may not
have their attention on school or where they're going. With most
kiddies having a cell phone...and the invention of wrist phones (yes,
they exist)...a kiddie's eyes will not always be on the street or
sidewalk. I actually saw a guy walking across WalMart's parking lot
talking to his wrist. I thought that might be a new level of crazy -
wrong!! WalMart was selling these. So...color me officially old!!
I spoke with a Mother who told me that the school her son attends has
him bring a plastic tote with a complete change of clothes (shoes,
undies, socks, etc) for himself in it. It seems that last year someone
found a bedbug on the outside of his backpack. The school washes his
clothes, dries them and has them ready for the next day. He has to take
a set of extra clothes every day. I'll sidestep the "Say What?!!" and
submit the following.
15 Unexpected Uses For Rubbing Alcohol (Mom always had rubbing
alcohol). 1)Kill Dust Mites and Bedbugs: Spray a mist of rubbing
alcohol over your bed and anywhere else you have dust mites and/or
bedbugs. Let the mist air dry and vacuum. 2)Fix Eyeshadow, Blush, or
Pressed Powder: Pour some rubbing alcohol into a spray bottle and spray
it over your broken eyeshadow, blush, or pressed powder Smooth it over
with your finger or a spoon and let it dry/harden for a few hours.
3)Stinky Things: Spray stinky shoes or other smelly items with some
rubbing alcohol and let dry in a sunny spot to get rid of the smell.
4)Stretch Out Your Shoes: Spray a thin coat of rubbing alcohol over the
outside of your shoes and the insoles. Then put on some thick socks and
wear your shoes to stretch them 5)Disinfect Eyeglasses: Clean your
eyeglasses with some rubbing alcohol to disinfect them. 6)DIY Air
Freshener: Mix a cup of rubbing alcohol with 10-15 drops of essential
oil in a spray bottle. Spritz in the air and enjoy. 7)Fend Off Fruit
Flies: Spray a mist of rubbing alcohol where the fruit flies are. This
will kill them and prevent any others from arriving. 8)Remove Sticker
Residue: If you peeled off a sticker or price tag and still have sticky
gunk left behind, saturate it with an alcohol-soaked cotton ball. Let
set for a few minutes. Residue wipes away easily. 9)DIY Hand Sanitizer:
Make your own hand sanitizer by mixing 3 parts rubbing alcohol and 1
part aloe vera gel. Add essential oil if you want it scented. 10)Cold
Sores: You can dry out a cold sore and help it heal faster by dabbing
an alcohol soaked cotton ball on it. 11)Head Lice Treatment: Pour
rubbing alcohol on hair and let set 20 minutes. You can also dip a comb
in alcohol and run it through the hair following the initial treatment.
Shampoo as usual. 12)Earwax Removal: Mix equal parts of rubbing alcohol
and vinegar (apple cider vinegar is best.). Dip cotton swab in mixture
and clean your ears and dissolve ear wax. DO NOT PUT THE SWAB INTO THE
EAR ITSELF. 13)Sanitize Make-Up Brushes: Soak your make-up brushes in
alcohol for 30 minutes and let them air dry. Do this at least once a
month. 14)Prevent Sweat Stains: Wipe areas on your body that are prone
to sweat stains (collars, armpits, inner elbows, knees) with an alcohol
wetted cloth or paper towel. The alcohol acts as an antiperspirant.
15)Soothe Body Aches: Rub some alcohol on your skin where you are achy.
The rubbing alcohol will bring blood to the surface of your skin to
cool and relax your muscles.
For those of you who pray...those who send good vibes...and all else -
remember Houston, Texas and Louisiana. Hurricane Harvey is on the move
and headed to Louisiana. Louisiana recently sent a large convoy of
trucks/small motorboats to Houston.
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
