Mind, Body, Soul
Truth and Proof
By Mona Lease
Greeting, Gals!! When the idea lazily swan around in my mind to start
this column and my Editor said ok...I thought: "Alright - we'll see
where it goes."
She was 18 and newly moved to Greenville. I don't even know how we met.
We were friends through good and bad...through childbirths...through
her house fire. Then she moved...life split us.
We reconnected through social media. I went to her house last week.
Twenty five-plus years have come and gone since she moved. And sitting
on her patio....no years had come and gone.
We caught up and shared highlights of the years apart...like it was
only a couple of weeks since we'd seen each other. I told her about
this column...just for women. Her attention perked up more. I explained
the point of this column....that we are just women trying to figure out
a few things about ourselves....things we might have known and
forgotten....things we may have never known. She said she wanted to
read it. Welcome aboard, girl. Glad to have you...as a friend....as a
reader.
I also ran across another old friend and her sister last week. I've not
known her as long. I explained I was still writing the "woman's
column"....as she calls it. She and her sister are both interested.
Welcome aboard to you gals, too!! Glad to have you...friends and
readers, too. (As always - guys feel free to read these columns.
The disclaimer here is: If you get embarrassed or don't agree...not my
fault. It's a woman's column.)
The thing here is: Out of the three women and I....none of us changed
our "core." We still have the core set of principles with which we make
decisions and deal in our daily lives...grocery...DPL...taxes, etc.
And we believe that is why our friendships survived. Sure...age caught
up with us...we've got a couple of areas to tweak...but, the core is
still intact.
Consider the following (To the three gals I referenced: Is this how we
retained our core?):
"Life is short, live it. Love (not just sexual...I added this) is rare,
grab it. Anger is bad, dump it. Fear is awful, face it. Memories are
sweet, cherish them." - No known author
"It's ok if you fall down and lose your spark. Just make sure that when
you get back up, you rise as the whole fire." - Colette Werden
"Time doesn't heal all wounds; it's what you do in that time that
matters." - Dr. Phil
"Age is irrelevant. Ask me how many sunsets I've seen, hearts I've
loved, trips I've taken, or concerts I've been to. That's how old I
am." - Love, Peace, and Everything Else
"If there was no money, and everything depended on your moral
standards, the way you behaved, and the way you treated people, how
would you be doing in life?" - Tupac Shakur
"I spent so many years walking on eggshells...never doing or saying the
right thing. One day I decided I'd had enough and stomped all over
them. Those eggshells cut me deeply as I walked away...but this...was
the most beautiful pain I had ever felt." - S.I. Heaton
If I walked away from everyone who let me down or hurt me, I'd be
walking a long way....alone. - Halos and Horns Fun Page
"You can't let people scare you. You can't go your whole life trying to
please everyone else. You can't go through life worried about what
everyone else is going to think...whether it's your hair, clothes, what
you have to say, how you feel, what you believe, and what you have. You
can't let the judgement of others stop you from being you. Because if
you do, you're no longer you. You're someone everyone else wants you to
be." - Peace, Love, and Everything Else
Sometimes all you need is for someone to just be there, even if they
can't solve your problems. Just knowing there is someone who cares can
make all the difference. - sun.gazing.com
The best is yet to be!! MONA
