Along Life’s Way
The Ties That Bind
By Lois E. Wilson

Christmas and the New Year are special times for reconnecting with family and friends. My verse written in 2012 is an affirmation of that:

     TIES THAT BIND

There’s bustle about each chore
Then come knocks upon the door.
No matter what the weather,
The family gets together
To celebrate Christmas Day.

Among hugs and happy noise,
Children explore their new toys.
Men discuss work, politics,
And make final football picks
Eager for the play-by-play.

Women showing festive mood
Share news while preparing food.
The hostess states, “Time to eat!
Find your name tag; take your seat.
It’s all hot; so don’t delay.”

Then Grandpa pauses to say,
“Let us bow our heads and pray.
Lord, we thank you for this day.
Bless the family gathered here.
Savior, whom we all revere
Be with each one through the year—
Till the time we meet again,
In Your love complete.  Amen.”

My prayer for 2019 is that all children have at least one person to care, love, and encourage them throughout their lifetime. Someone who will say to them: “Good job! Well done! I knew you could do it! I love you!”

I also pray that you have a happy family. Bowring said: “A happy family is but an earlier heaven.”

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
