Mind, Body, Soul
Gravyaholics Anonymous
By Mona Lease

Greetings, Gals!! "Hi. My name is Mona. I'm a gravyaholic. Really - I am addicted to any gravy...any white-sauce. I've mixed - I've created my own sauces. I just can't stop."

Usually I'm pretty good. I know my triggers. I know when to say "no." I know when to walk away from a dangerous situation. But, lately...I've heard the call. "Sausage gravy and biscuits" has been circulating through my mind for the last two weeks.

New Year's Day - I succumbed. With Bob Evans sausage by my side, a cast iron skillet on the stove, and my stainless steel spatula in my hand..I started cooking. Pillsbury was in attendance with the Honey and Butter Grands fluffy biscuits.

It all looked good on the crystal plate. It all looked harmless. That is until I ate the last forkful.

I don't normally eat like this. Evidently the plate is bigger than my stomach. And I was wearing elastic-waisted jogging pants. It was so good. The temperature outside was (and is as I pen this) ZERO....straight temperature.

And this was all ok "back in the day." Grandma cooked over a coal-oil stove. Cast iron skillets held the gravies...made with Carnation canned milk. Just the way I make it. But after dinner...in Grandma's time...there was still work to be done.

The pump to the well was outside. Water had to be pumped into a bucket and brought into the house to be used for the next day's breakfast and washing those dishes.

I was feeling a little bad about my "fall from grace." And then....half the water in the house is frozen. I'll be packing water from the bath tub to the kitchen sink to wash the dirty dishes.

My stomach is warm and full of sweet, sausage gravy and biscuits. Life is good. Consider the following while I see to the pipes.

"I'm walking into 2018 with a clear heart and mind.
If you owe me, don't worry about it - you're welcome.
If you wronged me, it's all good - lesson learned.
If you're angry with me - you won. I let it go.
If we aren't speaking, it's cool - I truly wish you well.
If you feel I've wronged you, I apologize. It wasn't intentional.
I'm grateful for every experience that I received.
Life is too short for pent-up anger, holding grudges, and extra stress or pain.
Here's to 2018!!
Remember...forgiving someone is for you, not the other person.
So don't block your blessing.
Make 2018 a year of positivity and a season of forgiveness." - Kelly's Treehouse

"Sometimes all you need is for someone to just be there, even if they can't solve your problems. Just knowing there is someone who cares can make all the difference." sun.gazing.com

The best is yet to be!!  MONA
