Along Life’s Way
The Deep Freeze
By Lois E. Wilson
What’s there to talk about when everything you hear and see concerns
the cold weather? This morning, a cousin in Columbus, Ohio, I
correspond with sent me a tongue twister phrase that fits the topic of
the day. I looked it up on the internet; it had two additional lines
and was ascribed to an anonymous British source:
Whether the
weather be fine,
Or whether the
weather be not,
Whether the
weather be cold,
Or whether the
weather be hot,
We’ll weather
the weather
Whatever the
weather,
Whether we like
it or not!
I’m certain that most of us curtailed our activities to some extent
during the 2017-18 deep freeze. I did go to town on Tuesday and
accomplished my chore via the drive-thru because I didn’t want to risk
falling. Traffic was sparse and there were few people out and about.
I’m staying close to home until this icy “global warning” is over. I
will say that the streets were not too bad thanks to our dedicated work
crews.
Think positive about the frosty situation. Now, when you are old and
gray, you can tell your grandchildren, “I remember the January of 2018.
It was so cold that the world seemed to stop for a few days. To me that
was a good thing. Sometimes God gives us a chance to pause and reflect
about life and the people we love. So when nature disrupts your
activities for a time with a cold spell and snow, remember now you can
make snow angels!”
