Mind, Body, Soul
Bugs and
Diseases
By Mona Lease
Greetings, Gals!! Whew...our world is getting to be a scary place!!
Hepatitis A,B, and C are on the rise - even in Darke County. I spoke
with Darke County's investigating nurse. Then I read the following.
This City Has The Worst Bed Bug Infestation in America
Pest control company, Orkin, recently released it's "Top 50 Bed
Bug Cities" list...complete with data of the places where Orkin
performed the most treatments for bed bugs from December 2016 through
November 2017.
The reality is that bed bugs have shown up in cities and towns all
across America, from mansions to cramped apartments. They've been
increasing in number since the turn of the century due to increased
travel and limitations on certain insecticides, but numbers have been
especially high in these cities.
There's not too much you can do to stop them; early detection is
critical since there is no foolproof way to keep them out of your home.
The list of cities and other excerpts from the article are:

Bed bugs are always in motion. They travel from place to place with
ease, including luggage, clothing, and other belongings.
In addition to single family homes, bed bugs can be found in:
apartments, hotels, hospitals, daycare centers, public transit,
schools, and offices. It has nothing to do with sanitation.
A female bed bug can lay 2-5 eggs per day (up to 500 in her lifetime).
The above rankings include residential and commercial treatments. For
the second year in a row...Baltimore, Maryland is rated as: "Has the
worst bed bug infestation in America." - Bridget McCusker..Reader's
Digest
As for the Hepatitis A, B, and C: Darke and Miami Counties recommend
testing. It's a simple blood test. Treatments are past the daily shots
to a daily pill. The length of time you take medicine has dropped from
6-9 months to 3 months.
A Dr I spoke with believes the "Baby Boomers" picked up Hepatitis C
during this period: "Early mid 40's to 1960-1964." (Demographers and
researchers use this time frame).
The Dr's reasoning is: This is when Drs reused needles - putting them
back in the storage jar of alcohol until the next use. (Remember the
big chrome-looking receptacle that housed the needle?) The alcohol did
not kill the Hepatitis C virus. No one can tell me where the
Hepatitis C virus originated.
Hepatitis C is a virus...along with Hepatitis A and B. There are
vaccines for Hepatitis A and B. Since there are five different types of
Hepatitis C...there is no vaccine as of yet.
"Sometimes all you need is for someone to just be there, even if they
can't solve your problems. Just knowing there is someone who cares can
make all the difference." - sun.gazing.com
