Cannabis?!!
By Mona Lease

Hi, all!! With all of the hype about medical marijuana (cannabis), I thought I'd submit the following for you readers to consider. Hold on tightly - it gets to be a sort-of "sex education"-type thing. I heard on the news today, (7/30), that a medical marijuana grower in the Cleveland area has been given the "green light" to start growing for Ohio's medical marijuana.

Cannabis (marijuana) comes in male or female plants. The male plants (in the same species) grow taller and therefore, have a thicker main stalk to support them.

Males have thinner leaves and fewer leaves. Males have a naturally lower THC (the stuff that gets you high) content.

Female cannabis plants are shorter in height (in the same species) than the males and have a more slender main stalk. Her leaves are broader and closer to the top of the plant.

Both male and female plants look the same until about six weeks of age - when their "sex organs" develop. I'm not going to go into all of that here - how to tell the organs apart and such.

There are also "hermaphroditic" plants - plants containing both male and female reproductive parts. These should be treated as males in all cases. You need to remove them from the females, unless you specifically want the seeds. This is just the beginning...stick close!!

The female cannabis plant is normally the only one to produce buds..remember the hermaphroditic plants. If a male plant is around - he will fertilize her (through pollination). She will then spend her time producing seeds and not THC - which gives you a smaller harvest of oil.

You do need seeds to keep growing the marijuana. In general, male plants show their sex 3-10 days before the females (indoors) and 3 weeks before the females out of doors.

"Industrial Hemp" is a cannabis plant that contains no more than three tenths of one percent (0.3%) THC content (the stuff that gets you high). It is currently being used to create "hemp oil."

It is said to be the same as some of what a Dr would prescribe for you...labeled "medical marijuana." This "hemp oil" can be bought at some health food stores. I did read a label on a bottle of this oil. It said the THC content was: 0.00x %.

To extract the THC, you can use one of three methods:
CO2 Extraction: This method uses carbon dioxide under high pressure and extremely low temperature to isolate the THC oil.

Ethanol Extraction: This involves the use of high-grade grain alcohol to create a high-quality cannabis oil to be used in a "vape pen cartridge." This extraction method destroys the plant waxes that may have health benefits favored by other product makers.

Olive Oil Extraction: Virgin olive oil or just olive oil is used to extract the THC (the stuff that gets you high). This resulting product is called "cannabis-infused olive oil." It is graded as either "CBD-rich" or "THC-dominant." Either of these are perishable and should be stored in a cool, dark place.

Lastly - I spoke with a woman I trust. She recently started taking the CBD-rich olive oil...or CBD-rich hemp oil. She said she loves it. There is no THC content. I looked at her bottle. She said there is no "buzz" - no "high" - no "munchies."

She said she could feel the tension leave her neck and shoulders immediately. "There is just calm." she reports. She also said that there is nothing that is going to take away "emotional pain" or "bad/tragic memories."

And, here you have it...a working knowledge of "medical marijuana": or "cannabis" - the sexes, what the males and females "do," and how the THC (the stuff that gets you high) is extracted.

Someone at the Ohio State level (I believe) will determine what the criteria is when attaching a "milligram dosage" to the medical marijuana. Then that will become the criteria for writing the prescription for a medical marijuana "vape," "edible," or "patch."

From there, a Dr will see you and write out a prescription for your health needs. And that's America - 2018!!

Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next time. Ever Toodles!!!   MONA
