Not the
IRS/Not the Electric Company
By Mona Lease
Hi, all!! I got five phone calls from 651-762-3466...in one day! It's a
Minnesota phone number. They never leave a message. The next day I
received three phone calls from the same number.
I called this phone number. It is a "non-working" phone number within
the XcelEnergy, Inc company. They are an electric/natural gas company
based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. For two weeks I received phone calls
just about every other day...same above-mentioned pattern...same
above-mentioned phone number.
I took classes to receive a ham radio license. Which is how I have a
working knowledge of the "Minnesota Caller."
I actually cut short a call I was on one day to answer "Minnesota Fats"
- sorry, I couldn't resist!
He told me he was a computer technician and asked me how I was. I said
I was fine and to never again call my number. He told me to "be
advised" and I broke in and told him to "be advised" that another call
from him and I was contacting the Feds. I said thanks and ended the
call. No more calls from him..to date.
Regarding the ham radio: If you hook up your ham radio to a computer,
you can "tap into" any frequency. AM/FM radio, CB radio, cordless house
phone, cell phone, radio-controlled cars, etc, television and the
like...all operate on a "frequency."
"Frequency" is the number of times a "wave" repeats itself in a given
amount of time. These are measured in "hertz" - named after Heinrich
Hertz...who was the first person to provide proof of existence of
electromagnetic waves. Hertz (Hz) is a whole and divided or multiplied
into kilohertz, megahertz, etc..based on the metric scale.
Remember when the CB radio first arrived and someone had a
power-booster...you could hear their conversation on your TV? That was
more power to boost you to a higher frequency and/or give you a longer
range. There are classes to the ham radio license and you are only
allowed to be "on the air" of certain frequencies according to your
class of license.
We've now gone "digital" - which is mostly an FM and higher
thing. Now you have 104.7, 104.8, 104.9, etc. And there are stations on
most of these.
With the use of a computer, you can "enter" a hertz frequency with a
ham radio. Since 651-762-3466 is a "non-working" number...it is still a
"live" number. If you trace like I did, you get the phone call coming
from Xcel and not the "Minnesota Caller" himself...who sounded like he
was from Asia...and could have been from Asia. Xcel could put a tracer
on their lines...which is a headache for them.
I spoke with Xcel customer service. Xcel supplies electricity to some
3.3 million people and natural gas to another 1.8 million people. It is
conceivable that you could get into the records concerning
electric/natural gas customers and supply yourself with
these...free...forever! I told the woman this and she agreed with me.
She also did not seem to care.
The practical application to this is: Had I listened to the "Minnesota
computer technician", he most probably would have said something was
wrong with my computer. I would have said no. He would then have asked
me if my computer was running slowly...and they ALL will run slowly
with age. If I had said yes, my computer was running slowly, he would
have then said he could "fix" it.
He would have asked for money to "fix" it...only payable by credit
card. In theory you give him 23 numbers (credit card number, expiration
date, security code) and your permission to enter your computer.
Voila!! - he has all of your information.
Every bill you've paid over the computer, every time you ordered on the
internet, every site you've ever visited on the world wide web..he has
access to everything.
Lastly...and most importantly - the IRS will not call you for anything,
the electric company will not let someone use their number to call you
(If you do not get a specific caller ID, do not give out any
information), Microsoft will not call you about your computer's
performance (they only supply the parts of your computer), and
"computer technicians" will not call you about your computer...they
will be busy fixing other computers in a reputable shop you may visit.)
Do not give anyone permission to enter your computer. Ever. Just like
our human body - the computer gets slower with age. If your computer is
"fixed" and it runs faster...it will not last. Parts wear out with age.
Gotta go, ya'll. I got a cramp in this 58 years old hand!
Remember the kiddies and our service people. Take good care of the
furry and feathered ones out there. Be safe and healthy. See ya next
time. Ever Toodles!! MONA
