Mind, Body, Soul
Glens and
Hospitals
By Mona Lease
Greetings, Gals!! Along about 1982 - the movie First Blood appeared on
the silver screen. John Rambo - a highly decorated Vietnam
veteran - who was specifically trained to ignore pain and
disregard "chatter" designed to make him respond inappropriately...goes
on his own personal agenda using these skills.
Senator John McCain..of Arizona..died August 25, 2018. I watched a
video taped of him (as proof) when he was in an Hanoi, Vietnam
hospital...as a POW.
He declined "special treatment"...an early release due to his Father
being Admiral of our US Navy. He flew a plane that was shot down and he
would remain a prisoner of war for six years. He was wounded in that
crash.
In this video he told the camera: "Tell my wife I love her. I'll get
well. I hope to see her soon." The video containing this has been
dubbed "John's confession"..as he admitted to bombing Vietnamese
cities...the result of much "interrogation." After this, John
felt that he had dishonored his country. He saw the only way out of
this "shame" to be his suicide. His cell mate told him to gather hi
strength and fight to stay emotionally balanced...to stay strong for
the eventual day of his release.
So..what happens if we start looking at our lives through John's
"Vietnamese experience?" What happens if we look at our problems...our
foibles ...our shortcomings...and we "gather our strength?"
Compared to John's almost daily beatings...do we really have it so
rough? (Myself included here). The Vietnamese are excelled at the "art"
of mind games...psychological torture...casting that little bit of
doubt that they know will grow in your mind to a depression that would
leave you hopeless. And when you feel hopeless...you won't even
try...you won't even try to heal...you won't even try to stand...you
won't even try to "fight" anything.
And what would happen if we combined that with John Rambo of First
Blood? What if we took Rambo's training of "ignoring the pain" and
"ignoring the idle chatter" that is really designed to make us say or
do something that we really don't want to say or do...and apply that to
our personal lives?
What would happen if we gathered our strength and used that strength to
heal ourselves mind, body, and soul?
In the '80s there was a saying..."do a Rambo" or "pull a Rambo." That
meant to use the "Rambo training" to tear down a door to rescue someone.
What would happen if we "gather our strength and heal" like John McCain
and then add that to Rambo's "tearing down doors and walls to free a
captive?"
Or - what if we "pulled a Rambo" and knocked down a few doors and walls
that hold us back from being all we can be in this life?
From John McCain's Funeral
"......But come ye back when summer's in the meadow. Or when the
valley's hushed and white with snow. And I'll be here in sunshine or in
shadow. Oh Danny boy, Oh Danny boy I love you so."
"Sometimes all you need is for someone to just be there, even if they
can't solve your problems. Just knowing there is someone who cares can
make all the difference." - sun.gazing.com
