Along Life’s Way
Above the
Clouds: A Fable
© 2018 Lois E. Wilson
One day in Heaven, Cirrus who was in charge of clouds had an idea. He
would create a cloud formation in the shape of the letters “PC.” He
told God that his design was so huge and beautiful that it he knew it
could not escape the attention of Earth’s inhabitants.
He placed it into the sky in a position where the sun’s rays shone
through its crystals. The PC cloud was a magnificent, colorful display.
On Earth, people looked toward the sky. Marveled by the sight, they
exclaimed, “Ooh, ooh! Do you see the PC? Isn’t it beautiful?” Each
viewer interpreted the vision in a personal manner.
The farmer thought it meant plant corn, an orchard owner—pick cherries.
An outdoorsman saw pitch camp in the letters. Those involved with the
law related to press charges, prosecute criminals, and pardon culprits.
A mother was sure it was a pick up children reminder; another woman
felt it a pursue career motivation. An elderly man questioned himself,
play croquet or play cards? A banker responded with provide credit; a
debtor—pay charges.Blue-color workers thought of such activities as
produce cars and pack cartons.
One scientist knew it signaled prove concepts. An artistic duo,
inspired, vowed to paint canvases and practice concertos. Politicians
usually decided it meant political correctness or please constituents.
Now and then a pastor or priest would affirm that the PC stood for pray
contritely, or preach Christianity.
After considering all the responses to his PC display, Cirrus was
deeply troubled and disappointed. He went to God and apologized, “I
thought the PC would evoke more positive reactions such as Praise
Christ.”
God replied, “I appreciate your efforts. Do not despair. Be grateful as
I am—at least you got them to look to heaven.”
Moral: The more you look up for inspiration and hope—the less likely
you’ll feel down.
