Along Life’s Way
The
Soul Hungers
By Lois E. Wilson
Maybe you were a fortunate child whose parents believed in and had a
close relationship with God. They read the Bible, openly prayed before
meals and bedtime. They thanked Him for their blessings and saw that
you were exposed to His word at an early age. They took you to Sunday
school and church and involved you in its activities. You attended a
confirmation class, accepted Christ, were baptized, and became a member
of a church.
There are many people who did not have this discovery of faith and
religion through their families. Others let their early upbringing
within the church deteriorate until it was gone from their daily lives.
Later they may realize that something is missing. They do not feel
complete. Others have never been exposed to God. They also feel
emptiness in their lives
Thus begins their hunger and search for wholeness. It may take them
down a dark road to drugs, promiscuity, or worse. Galatians 5: 17
states: “For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit
and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in
conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.”
Galatians 5:22-24 urges all toward the Holy Spirit: “But the fruit of
the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is
no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful
nature with its passions and desires.”
He who died on the cross for us that we might be forgiven for our sins
and have eternal life is worshiped this Easter season. The ingredients
offered to us by following His way have no expiration date on them. God
has no shelf life. Isaiah 26:4 promises: “Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal.”
Christ offers mercy; ask Him and He will forgive your sinful deeds.
Search out His believers; they will help you develop faith. Faith
builds trust. Trust brings peace and joy to your soul. With Him, you
will find unconditional love and guidance through your years to come.
He is the sustenance for which your soul hungers:
Take time to pray
For God will hear
The words you say
And hold you near.
If you should stray,
God’s always there
So you can stay
Safe in his care.
You’ll see each day
God’s love is grand.
He lights the way;
Go hand in hand.
Happy Easter to all!
