Union City runs over
Blackhawks
Battle of the Hub goes to Indiana side

If Mississinawa Valley coach sees another team of Indians, it will be
too soon.
After falling to the Newton Indians at ‘The Reservation’ Friday, the
Blackhawks went across the line for a visit to ‘The Tee-Pee‘ Saturday.
After 32 minutes of play, the Hawks limped away with a 59-24 loss to
the Tribe. Turnovers killed Mississinawa Valley. To go along with the
24 points scored, the Hawks matched that with the same number of
miscues.
“It doesn’t take a genius to figure out when you have one turnover for
every point scored, it’s not going to be a good result,” said MV coach
Jason Burkholder. “That really tells the whole story and I wish I had
an explanation but I don’t. We are very inexperienced and it showed
tonight. I’m not going to make any excuses, we just have to play better
and execute better every single play. We’re doing what we need to do
but we need more consistency.”
The Hawks had their backs against the wall before the game ever started
as Union City featured 6-7 post man, Mark Bryson.
“We don’t have anyone that can match up with anyone like that,”
admitted Burkholder. “We have to find a way. Find a way to rebound.
Find a way to put the ball in the basket and find a way to get stops
and protect the ball. In earnest, we have to find a way to just be a
better team.”
While Bryson was clogging up the middle for the Indians, it was Tyler
Mote and Gary Williams that got things done from the outside. Mote led
the Tribe with 18, while Williams added a dozen in support with Bryson
adding 11 more.
“Mote and Williams are a good pair. They compliment each other well,”
Burkholder stated. “Our biggest problem is we have no leadership on
this team. I don’t care where we find it at but we have to find a floor
leader. We never quit or gave up and I was proud that we never quit. We
played hard but we have a lot of things that need to be fixed and I’m
responsible for doing that. We work hard in practice and we are trying.”
Now 0-2, the Hawks will go to Greenville Friday for a game with the 0-1
Wave.
“We are very excited to have them on our schedule,” Burkholder stated.
“I wish we had them at home but I think this will be a good game for
us.”
After Friday, the Hawks will play at Fairlawn Saturday and then at FM
the following Friday before having their home opener against Bradford
on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
