Is Meyer in for the long haul
In yesterday’s CNO sports, you read about a poll by the Dayton Daily News Business Journal asking if Urban Meyer will bring a BCS championship to Ohio State University.
While it’s only an opinion, 85 percent that weighed in said yes.
Not so fast my friends. How can anyone say he will? CAN he bring one back to Buckeye Land?
Yes!
WILL he?
One of the things that was stated in the poll was that this was a snapshot of what people were thinking and I agree. It also said it’s not scientific. That’s true also.
What I can’t get past is the fact that Meyer is coming out of retirement.
After the Gators Bowl game against Cincinnati, Meyer announced his retirement, citing health reasons, after being admitted to the hospital with chest pains and suffering from dehydration, even though he was released later that day.
As a coach, Meyer spent two years at Bowling Green and two years after that with the University of Utah where he was named the Mountain West Coach of the year.
He then went to Florida to coach the Gators in 2005 and won two national titles before retiring, which was later changed from retirement to an indefinite leave of absence.
I think Meyer will be a good fit at The Ohio State University, especially since he played there. My question is, how long will he stay onboard? Will he be here two, three or five years or more?
Will he hang around long enough to win that coveted BCS title or will he hang it up again citing health reasons?
I understand the health reason thing for obvious reasons. Even I know that the day will come when I will have to hang it up myself.
Granted, this is only the first time Myer has come out of retirement but are we Looking at another Brett Farve? Is Meyer in this for the long haul?
I hope so because if he hits the ditch in a couple of years, people will be yelling, “Will the real Urban Meyer please stand up!”
