Oakwood too much for Lady Wave

GREENVILLE- Greenville got off to a quick start, grabbing an 11-6 first quarter lead. After that, the Lady Wave fought a good fight as Oakwood would not back away.

Heading into the break looking a 25-25 score in the face, Oakwood held Greenville to just three, third quarter points and then was forced to stave off a fourth quarter charge by Greenville to claim a 48-42 victory.

“We just weren’t focused coming into this game,” said Greenville coach Dave McFeely. “We got off to a good start but we still weren’t focused and we were doing what we were supposed to do.”

The biggest thorns for the Wave came in the form of senior Claire Davis (24 points) and junior Elizabeth Haley (17 points).

“We knew coming into the game those two were their ball team,” McFeely stated. “We had scouted them and had their plays down and their calls down. We just didn’t execute.”

On two different occasions, Oakwood looked to put a lot of distance between them and the Wave.

Senior Jenna Dowler stepped up and knocked down some big shots, keeping Greenville within striking distance. Dowler would finish with a dozen points for Greenville as junior Megan Galloway would lead the Wave with 16 on the night.

“Jenna has had two pretty good games back to back so she has really been working hard and Galloway is the same way and neither one of them came off the floor,” McFeely said. “We lost Karlee Lennen in the junior varsity game and she was our seventh person so that really hurt.

“Scoring three points in the third quarter really hurt,” McFeely continued. “You’ve got to score and we didn’t run any offense. We hurried our shots, fired them up and no offensive rebounds, you can’t play one and done.”

After getting a win at West Carrollton Saturday, 61-44, Greenville wanted to make it two in a row.

“This was a team we could have beat,” McFeely admitted. “They (Oakwood) played well tonight but we didn’t so they get the win.”

The Wave junior varsity fell 17-15.

Greenville will be idle until Wednesday when the Wave will host Versailles.
