It
was so obvious, a blind man could
have seen it coming
By George Starks
Ok,
was I the only person who was able
to read between the lines?
It
was just over a week ago at the
Ohio State-Penn State game when one of the best, if not the best,
college
football coaches said he had no intention of ever coaching at Ohio
State.
Even
though the rumor was running
rampant, Urban Meyer denied it by saying, “Ohio State has not contacted
me on
this matter.”
At
that point, Meyer gave himself away
and it was obvious. Anyone with a half a brain, knew what was going on.
Meyer
was leaving the ESPN/ABC
football family to become the new football coach at The Ohio State
University
How
many times has the sports world
heard a coach or former player deny that he/she was going to take a
position
somewhere and a week or two later, was accept that position.
If
his denial wasn’t enough to confirm
what was going on during the Penn State game, the OSU game with the
team from
up north was confirmation enough, when it was announced that Meyer had
asked to
be relieved of his duties that day for personal reasons.
I
think what boggles my mind even more
is the fact that when these people go on the record as saying they have
no
intention of doing something, do they think the sporting public is so
naive as
to believe it?
Is
that their mode of thinking?
And
here is something else.
When
he was asked, point blank, by his
partner about the job, did he think ESPN wasn’t paying attention to the
broadcast or did the parent company already know?
Either
way, there were no secrets
being kept there.
