Local teams need big
week 9 wins
Ansonia in top eight in polls; Bradford and Arcanum need miracles

DARKE COUNTY- Heading into week nine of the football season tonight, no
Darke County teams are safe.
After week eight, Ansonia was sitting in seventh in the computer
rankngs but with two games left to play, the Tigers need to win out,
just like the rest of the county teams.
Tonight, the 6-2 Tigers will travel to Covington. The Buccs are 8-0 and
ranked fifth in the D-V, Region 20 computer polls and the Tigers will
need to pull off a huge upset tonight. Granted, this is a monumental
task and it will take a miricle but stranger things have happened.
If Ansonia loses tonight, The Tigers won’t be eliminated but they would
need a lot of help in the form of secondary points.
This is where things get confusing and it takes a genius (not me) to
figure it out. So here it goes.
If the Tigers were to beat Covington tonight, they would make a major
jump in the polls as the Buccs are D-V while Ansonia is D-VI.
If the Tigers lose and Perry (2-6), Twin Valley South (2-6), National
Trail (1-7), Mississinawa Valley (0-8) and Bethel (4-4) all win, then
Ansonia picks up big secondary points. The Tigers can’t expect any help
from MV or Trail, a combined 1-15 but they could get help from Bethel
if the Bees were to beat Arcanum who beat Ansonia earlier this season.
South plays Miami East tonight and the 3-3 Vikings could be upended by
the Panthers. Big secondary points for Ansonia if this happens.
Of course Ansonia Coach Eugene Hoening would be the first to tell
anyone, “we need to win and everything else will take care of itself.”
He’s right but one has to believe that he and his staff are thinking
about all of this. One thing’s for certain, they will be watching the
scoreboard after the games tonight.
While the A-Tigers are on the inside looking out right now, the
Versailles Tigers are on the outside looking in. Versailles (6-2) are
ranked ninth in D-V, Region 20. The Tigers, like Ansonia, will need a
ton of help. Tonight, the V-Tigers will host the 5-3 Anna Rockets.
A win here is a must, not a option.
Versailles also will need help and will get it one way or another.
Minster (5-3) and Parkway (3-5) will hook-up tonight. Versailles has
beat both these teams and a win by Parkway would be bigger than a win
by Minster. Either way, the Tigers get must needed secondary points. A
win from 1-7 Celina and 2-6 Graham would be nice but don’t hold your
breath.
As far as the rest of the county goes. Greenville is mathamatically
eliminated after losing last week.
Arcanum and Bradford are still alive but the Trojans are ranked 12th
and Bradford 13th in D-VI, Region 24. Not eliminated yet but barely
breathing. Both of these teams need major miracles. Both need to win
with everything else falling right for them.
