Versailles, Ansonia record wins

BRADFORD - Bradford opened the game by kicking to the visiting Trojans and putting their defense to work. On the second play of the opening quarter, the defense forced a fumble and the Railroaders recovered on the Arcanum 30 yard line. The Bradford offense wasted no time in scoring as Jonathon Barbee’s run made the score 6-0 after a PAT failed.

Arcanum received the ball and a Railroader penalty gave them excellent field position at the Bradford 22 yard line. The Bradford defense stiffened, and held Arcanum, forcing the Trojans to turn the ball over on downs.

Early in the second quarter, the Trojans took advantage of a Bradford penalty and was able to score along with a two point conversion giving Arcanum an 8-6 lead. Austin Sell returned the ensuing kickoff to the 43 yard line giving the Roader’s offense good field position.

After moving the ball to the Arcanum 35, the Railroaders were forced into a 4th down situation. Brandon Wysong connected with Brandon Wirrig for the first down.  Corey Rench scored giving Bradford the lead again 12 to 8.

Arcanum came back with some good runs only to be denied by a penalty. Bradford’s defense forced a punt that Andrew Stewart blocked giving the Railroader offense the ball inside the Arcanum 10 yard line.

Arcanum and Bradford would score again before the end of the half, as the Roaders would take a 18-14 lead at the half.

The Railroaders came out after the half time break and put it all together, completely shutting down the Arcanum offense with a great team effort. Bradford’s offense had some pin point passes from Wysong to receivers Sell Wirrig, and Dylan Canan as Bradford never looked back.

Coach Curtis Enis credited the biggest reason for winning was the re-focusing on Railroader football.

“They played hard every snap and the win over Arcanum is a great feeling,” Enis said.

Enis finished by saying some halftime adjustments allowed his kids to see what the coaches and community see. You can control your effort, focus, and desire to make plays.

“That’s what makes the difference in winning and losing.”
