UNION CITY- On the volleyball court, Mississinawa Valley senior Mallory
Livingston has done nothing short of being a true leader.
Livingston has led the team in kills all season and recently, in a game
against the Union Lady Rockets, Livingston set a single game kills
record at MV, raising the bar for excellence.
Livingston has raised the bar in the classroom also.
She is number one in her senior class in academics and will be
attending IU East in the fall, studying to become a psychiatrist.
Her accomplishments on the court, coupled with her leadership in class,
have earned her Athlete of the Month honors for County News Online.
“Wow,” said Livingston. “It’s great to know that my hard work has paid
off. I’ve had other high school coaches come talk to me after a match
so it’s nice to know that people outside of the school talk to me about
my abilities..”
Before signing with IU East, Livingston had offers from seven other
schools, including the likes of Wright State, Ball State and Ohio
Northern.
“It great to be getting offers from other schools,” Livingston
admitted. “But I can’t do it alone. I have a great group of girls
around me and without them, I would be nothing.”
She also gives credit for her success to her coach, Scott Brewer.
The year before he came here, I think we won only three games,” said
Livingston. “He has taught me so much and when he came, we won 15 games
and we’ve been there every since. He’s taught us how to win and be
winners.”
Currently, Livingston has a valedictorian scholarship at IU East..
“I have to keep that number one ranking in the classroom,” said
Livingston. “IU East doesn’t give full rides.”
