Union City - Bradford got off to a quick start and continued to roll in
a 47-12 win over the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks Friday on the road.
After receiving the kickoff the Roaders moved down the field
compliments of Cline, Dylan Canan, and Jonathon Barbee. Cline took the
final carry of the drive from five yards out to put the Roaders on the
board 7-0.
The Blackhawks responded fast and furious and connected on a 70 yard
pass to find the end zone. The PAT failed giving Bradford a slim 7-6
lead with 6:32 left in the first half.
The Blackhawk momentum didn’t last long as Cline took the ensuing
kickoff 70 plus yards straight to the house extending the Railroader
lead 14-6. It was time for the Railroader defense to shine and they did
just that, shutting down the MV offense with Rench intercepting and
turning the ball back over to his offense.
The Railroader “O” line stepped up and allowed Cory Rench, Canan, and
Barbee carries on a twelve play drive with Canan scoring and Bradford
taking a 21-6 lead at halftime.
MV received the kick following halftime but was unable to muster up any
offense, forcing a punt. The Bradford offense seemed to follow suit and
found themselves in a situation where they turned the ball over on
downs.
After both teams shared punts, the Railroader defense caused a fumble
to the Hawks 20 yard line, setting up a Brandon Wysong to Brandon
Wirrig touchdown reception. The MV defense blocked the point after
attempt leaving the score 27-6.
It only took the Railroader defense 4 plays to hand the ball back to
Wysong who handed off to Barbee for an 82 yard burst to the end zone.
Bradford extended their lead 33-6 lead with the 3rd quarter closing in.
The defense forced another turnover and Rench had a big run, setting up
another Wysong to Wirrig reception in the end zone, the PAT was good;
Bradford 40, MV 6 as the 3rd quarter ended.
The 4th quarter proved to start positive for the Blackhawks as they
moved the ball down the field for a score bringing the score 40-12. The
Railroaders would score once again in the final quarter on a run by
Cline to end the contest 47-12.
Bradford will return back to Warner Field on Friday, October 28 to host
TVS and to pay tribute to those seniors who will be playing their final
game as a Railroader.
