Teams ready for
tournament time
It’s that time again...
By George Starks
Soccer, volleyball and tennis teams are gearing up for tournament
action.
Before I go any further, it’s high time I said thank you to all of you
who are helping out with CNO Sports. As much as I would love to be able
to clone myself, I can’t. Therefore, I can only be in one place at a
time. Because many of you have chipped in and submitted things to me, I
want to thank you. The information and photos are much appreciated.
People like Dale Barger, Danny Stockton, Don Selanders, and my latest
contributor, Missy Schmitz has made it possible for CNO to grow.
Without them and the people who send in info and want no recognition,
it all wouldn’t be possible without you.
Now, back to local sports.
Three boys soccer teams (Greenville, Franklin Monroe and Tri-Village)
will soon find out who their first round tournament games will be
contested with. Franklin Monroe and Greenville will also be sending
girls teams as Tri-Village is a coed team.
I look for the Jet boys and girls to make a serious push while the
Patriots could do some damage depending who they get in the opening
round. With Greenville being such a young team, the Wave could make
some noise, but Greenville has struggled during the season and may find
the going rough in the post season.
The Lady Wave tennis team is about as solid as it’s been since the days
of Katie Hurley.
Going 5-0 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division, the
Wave could be a contender in post season action.
If not as a team, a couple of individuals could go far.
All eight volleyball schools are looking to tournament action also as
the regular season wraps up.
Most eyes will be on Mississinawa Valley and Versailles.
The Hawks are peaking right now and have gelled as a team and could be
priming themselves for a sectional title. The Sidney super sectional is
a tough one to get out of.
Versailles plays in the MAC...What more really need to be said. The
Tigers should go far and who knows, all the way.
Football still has four more weeks left to play. Two weeks ago,
Versailles and Ansonia were looking good for post season action.
Since then, both Tiger teams have been bumped off, with Versailles
losing twice. It’s not looking good for any team in Darke County
football right now.
We will wait and see.
