Patriots battle
Panthers to a tie

NEW MADSON- Most coaches view a tie as something of a loss. Tri-Village
coach Matt Fraylick sees it as something of a victory.
“We always have a tough time with Twin Valley South,” said Fraylick,
the Patriots soccer coach. “We’ve had some close battles with them the
last couple of years. Tonight was no exception.”
After a scoreless first half, South got on the board at the 32:47 mark
of the second when Jacob Cottingim got one past Patriot goalie Aaron
Tuck.
At the 25:36 mark, Ludwig Tiemann evened things up.
Despite having several good looks at goals, it would all end up in a
1-1 tie.
“We had a lot of shots on goal but right now, we are missing some of
our strong mid-fielders,” Fraylick pointed out. “A lot of times we are
in a three on six situation and we’re battling corners with only a
couple of offensive people, but we did have some shots..”
On the night, Tuck recorded 29 saves at the net, with one getting past
him.
“Before Aaron Tuck came in, we were giving up 12 goals a game,” said
Fraylick. “If you look at the top 10 teams we’ve played this year, we
gave up an average of three or four a game. Aaron really helps to keep
us in games. Our defense has been our strength and Aaron anchors that
defense. We struggle on offense but if we can get two or three goals,
we can win as long as we play strong defense. “
Tuck was an all conference player a year ago and has been a four year
starter for the Patriots.
“He (Tuck) graduates this spring, we will miss him,” Fraylick said.
“He’s looking to play next year at either Ohio Northern or Bowling
Green. He will be a asset wherever he goes. It’s easy to be a goalie on
a good team but when a goalie is trying to stop 30 shots a game, what
could the score have been tonight? He cleared some tough shots tonight.”
Tri-Village, 7-5-2, will face Miami East Thursday on the road.
