loses in sectional action
Greenville
ends season on positive

GREENVILLE
- There was no shame in
losing to Urbana for the Greenville volleyball team. In fact, Lady Wave
coach
Leslie Hoelscher was very pleased with the way her team played.
Urbana,
the top seed in the sectional,
eliminated Greenville from the OHSAA sectional tournament but it didn’t
come
easy. Greenville lost the opening set, 25-12, then bounced back in the
second,
shocking Urbana, winning 25-22, before losing the third and fourth sets.
Even
in losing, Hoelscher feels there
were many positives to look at.
“We
weren’t expected to win. No one
thought we would even come close,” said the Wave coach in a phone
interview
Thursday. “We were the seven seed and Urbana is the one seed. We
weren’t
expected to do anything in this match but come in, lose in three and go
home.”
That
scenario never happened.
“We
came out fighting,” Hoelscher
said. “We defiantly did not just roll over for them. After we lost the
first
game, we came back and won the second one and we weren’t blown out in
the third
and fourth sets. The girls played with the heart I wanted them to fight
with
all season but we came up just a little bit short.”
Before
the first point was ever
served, Hoelscher was more than a little nervous.
“I
was scared the girls would go into
this with the deer in the headlights look,” Hoelscher admitted. “They
surprised
me. They wanted to win. This was what I wanted to see all season.”
After
knotting things up, 1-1,
Hoelscher gave her team a huge pep talk.
