Covington, Miami East
remain unbeaten in CCC
From crosscountyconference.com
After five weeks of football four teams are battling it out at the top
with Covington and Miami East remaining unbeaten in the CCC, while
Ansonia and Tri-County North are one game back at 3-1 in the league.
Which makes the week six battle between the Buccs and Vikings one that
could determine the CCC crown.
Covington (5-0, 4-0) continued to roll with a 35-7 victory over
Tri-County North on Friday. Isaiah Winston and Alex Baskerville each
scored twice and Trent Tobias scored once in a hard-hitting affair.
The Buccaneer defense was stout, holding the Panthers to just 159 yards
of offense and seven points.
Tri-County North (3-2, 3-1) looks to regroup at home against Bradford
(2-3, 1-1), while Covington moves on to face Miami East on the road.
And the Vikings (4-1, 4-0) broke open a close game with a late second
half rally to pull away from Bethel, 41-10. It’s the fourth straight
win for a hot Miami East team after a last second defeat to Milton in
week one.
Bethel (2-3, 1-3), who has dropped its last three games, hopes to get
back to its winning ways next week at Twin Valley South (2-3, 2-2).
The Panthers handed Mississinawa Valley its fifth straight defeat of
the season in convincing fashion, 36-6. Twin Valley South has been
racking up points in bunches, but Friday it was the defense that made
significant strides – yelding a season-low six points.
Mississinawa Valley (0-5, 0-4) battles National Trail (0-5, 0-4) next
week – two teams looking for their first win.
Trail had its hands full Friday with an improving Arcanum team (2-3,
2-2), who has now won two games in a row. And Arcanum’s offense had its
way with the Blazer defense, scoring 54 points in a 34-point victory.
The Trojans with test their two-game winning streak against Ansonia
(4-1, 3-1) next week.
The Tigers rolled to a huge 30-16 win over Bradford on Friday ad Dusty
Holcomb and Seth Keller combined to rush for 273 yards. The Tiger
defense was also impressive, holding the game-breaking Bradford
backfield in check for much of the evening.
