College
football may be an amateur
sport, but it’s also a big business. And The Ohio State University is
among the most successful football teams
in the country.
The
Buckeyes ranked second in average
home attendance figures out of the 244 colleges that play Division I
football.
Ohio State averaged 105,278 fans per game last season.
In
total, 42 teams drew more than
50,000 fans to each home game last season — and five surpassed 100,000.
The
University of Michigan
topped the list with an average of 111,825
fans per game. The other members of the six-figure club are Ohio State,
Penn
State (104,234), Alabama (101,821) and Texas (100,654).
In
addition to strong attendance, Ohio
State also is among the richest college football teams in the land.
