Friday night football
preview
By George Starks

Tonight marks the mid-way point in the prep high school football
season. Five games are on tap for the night as two county schools go
head to head with Ansonia playing at Bradford.
Versailles @ Coldwater
The biggest game of the week five schedule finds Versailles at its arch
rival Coldwater in a MAC showdown. The Tigers are 4-0 on the season and
are ranked fourth in the D-V, region 20 polls behind West Liberty Salem
in third.
This promises to be the typical Versailles-Coldwater match-up. The
Cavaliers are eighth in the D-20 polls and are 3-1 on the year.
Last week, the Tigers thumped Parkway, 55-26, while Coldwater topped
St. Henry, 28-7.
If the Tigers are to remain undefeated, they will have to play mistake
free football and continue to mix the pass with the run.
Quarterback Nick Campbell will have to bring his ‘A’ game to this one
as both these teams know each other all too well.
As for a prediction to a winner, this is a toss-up. Both teams have a
lot riding on this game. If Versailles wins, the Tigers will remain in
the top four of the rankings. If the Cavs lose, they could very well
fall out of that coveted play-off spot. If the season had ended last
week, both teams are in the post season but there are still games to be
decided yet.
Ansonia @ Bradford
The other big game of the night finds Ansonia on the road at Bradford.
The Tigers are riding a two game winning streak and are sitting in the
ninth spot in the D-VI, region 24 polls with a 3-1 mark. Bradford,
coming off a huge loss at Covington is ranked 13th and needs this one
if it plans to make a solid playoff run. A loss on either team’s part
and those chances may go right out the window. Both squads feature
outstanding running games with decent defense.
Another toss-up here.
Greenville @ Paulding
Greenville, 0-4 will hit the road tonight to take on the 0-4 Paulding
Panthers. The Wave fell to Thurgood Marshall last week, 51-7 while
Paulding lost to Spencerville 56-0. While the Wave offense has
sputtered this year, the Panthers seemingly have no defense or offense,
having been shutout in their last three games by a combined score of
153-0. Greenville should get its first win of the season.
Trail @ Arcanum
Tonight is the Trojans homecoming and the Blazers should give them
little trouble in this one.
South @ MV
Mississinawa Valley has yet to prove anything. Twin Valley South will
end its losing skid tonight.
