Trojans hang on
for win, Lady Trojans fall short
Arcanum Sports Recap…
Trojans hang on for
win
ARCANUM- Sometmes, playing your best ball isn’t always necessary. In
the case of the Arcanum Trojans, that was the case.
The Trojans welcomed National Trail Wednesday in Cross County
Conference play and held on for a 2-1 victory. The Trojans fell behind
early as Trail scored a run in the top of the first inning.
Then the Blazers helped Arcanum put a couple runs on the scoreboard. In
the bottom of the first, Arcanum scored to tie the game at 1-1 on a
passed ball. In the third inning, Arcanum got the go-ahead run on a
ball that was thrown over the head of the National Trail pitcher.
Arcanum’s defense made a couple errors in the game but made enough
plays to keep the Trojans in the game. Arcanum had six hits in the
game, and National Trail had five. Mitch Brown led the Trojans by going
2-for-3.
On the mound, Donnie Kress had five strikeouts and Jacob Albaugh had
two for the Trojans.
Lady Trojans fall to
Trail
ARCANUM- The Arcanum Lady Trojans softball team started slow and never
found their stride Wednesday night, losing 4-2 to National Trail.
Trail took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the second inning, then added
two more runs in the sixth inning to make it 4-0. Two of the Blazers’
runs scored as a result of errors.
Arcanum got two runs in the bottom of the seventh, one off an RBI by
Erija Nealeigh and one off a wild pitch but would not be able to muster
anything else after that. The Lady Trojans had the tying run on base,
but a bunt attempt went into the air and ended up in a double play,
stifling their rally.
Nealeigh struck out nine National Trail batters. Arcanum had seven hits
and five errors while National Trail had six hits and one miscue.
