Wave track
teams take tri meet
FM, T-V, Greenville...

GREENVILLE- Greenville welcomed Franklin Monroe and Tri-Village in
Friday and won the boys and girls meets.
The Wave boys rolled, scoring 102 points, well ahead of the second
place Patriots with 43 and the Jets with 28 points overall. The girls
meet was much closer as the Lady Wave tallied 87 point with Franklin
Monroe putting up 63 and the Patriots 18.
In one of the better races of the night, FM’s Laurin Landis barely beat
out Nicole Raffle of Greenville, getting the win at the line.
“These two schools bring some good competition,” said Wave coach Bill
Plessenger. “We beat the FM 4x100 team and they said that was the first
time they’ve lost a race this year I think. I thought FM was a pretty
good team. They have some excellent athletes and we PR’ed in almost
every event.”
As has happened many times this season, Greenville sophomore Paige
Keller dominated. Running a 13.2 in the 100 meters and recording a long
jump of 16’6”, Keller also placed in the pole vault and ran the first
leg of the 4x100 relay.
The 16’6” leap on the long jump was just three inches shy of the school
record of 16’9”. As a freshman, Keller’s best jump was 15’8”.
“She is phenomenal,” said Plessenger. “She is sixth overall in the GWOC
in the 100 right now. She is by far the best girl’s runner in Darke
County but not in the conference. She’s not our best vaulter but that’s
ok.”
Plessenger was more than pleased with the scores but was a little
surprised with the boys score due to the fact he doesn’t get to see
much of the meet.
“I am always so busy getting things ready that I don’t get to see much
of the meet,” Plessenger said. “I didn’t think we were doing all that
well because the events I saw, it seemed like we weren’t doing all that
well in. In the mile, the Murphy kid (T-V) is a stud so when you look
up for a few minutes and see what’s going on, you seem to lose track of
what’s going on.”
For the Wave boys, Tyler Neff excelled, posting personal best times in
three events and is the second ranked hurdler in the GWOC.
Like Keller, sophomore Clarke Ruby has dominated in many meets this
season. Ruby won the 100 in a close race but was very disappointed with
his long jump performance. Competing in four events, Ruby is a big part
of the Wave success.
“Like Paige, he is good but hits a wall when it comes to the
conference,” said Plessenger. “Both of those kids are over competitive
and there are some extremely good sprinters in the conference,
especially when you go to Trotwood.”
With one more event left on the schedule before the GWOC meet and the
state tournament, Plessenger said he has a few kids that can make it to
state as long as they stayed focused.
