MAC teams prove tough

GREENVILLE- Parkway and Coldwater proved to be a little too much for
Greenville Thursday as the Wave boys finished second in the tri-meet
while the girls came in third.
“It was close in the boys meet,” said Greenville coach Bill Plessinger.
“Three points separated us from Parkway in the girls. Coldwater scored
68, 52 for Parkway and 49 for us if my numbers are correct.”
In the boys meet, Coldwater tallied 99 points to 41 for the Wave and 32
for Parkway.
With only 19 points separating the three girl’s teams, it was a night
the Lady Wave could have pulled one out.
“There were a couple of races, if we win them, it’s really close,”
Plessinger said. “We were right there in the 4x200. We finished second
but could have won that one. We had a couple of other races that could
have gone better for us. We ran a lot of our main girls in the events
and that made it close. We didn’t do that with the boys because we had
more flexibility.”
Two Wave athletes were impressive on this night.
Being overshadowed by Nicole Raffel, Clark Ruby (100 meter winner) and
Paige Keller (four events and winner in the 100) performed well for the
Wave.
Rudy (11.8 in the 100) and Keller’s 13.3 were head and shoulders above
the rest.
In Keller’s case, the Wave sophomore was second in the long jump and
pole vault as well as the 4x100 relay.
“There were personnel best’s” said Plessinger. “Tim Harless ran sprints
tonight and if he would have run in the 800 and 1600, he would have won
both of those. As it turned out, he was second in the 200 and he won
the 400. Paige is incredible and a great kid. It‘s hard to take her out
of anything. She is just that versatile”
Now, Greenville will compete in the Crossroad’s Classic at Butler.
The event features several GWOC as well as a few Columbus teams.
“This meet will give us a good idea as to how we will stack up in the
GWOC meet,” Plessinger said. “Northmont, Butler, Beavercreek, Piqua,
Sidney, Troy and a few others. Columbus Gahanna and Pickerington will
be there. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a few state champions there
Saturday. I think there will be great teams there and Troy is loaded.
As good as Versailles is, Troy would beat them I think. If we come out
with 30 points, I’d say we are doing good. “
The results from the Thursday night meet were not available.
