Bradford-Ansonia to play twice
Troy Christian without varsity football
By George Starks

Darke County - In something of a rarity, Troy Christian will not have a varsity football team in 2012.

With Bradford having the Eagles on its schedule and the Tigers looking for a replacement for Perry, Bradford and Ansonia will now hook up twice, with the season opener to be played at Bradford August 24.

That game will be a non-conference contest with the Cross County Conference game being played at Ansonia on September 21. That will be the Tigers Homecoming game.

“It was either travel to Akron or travel to Columbus and play a D I, D II or D III school or host Ansonia in week one,” Yingst said. “It was the right thing to do for the circumstance that both teams were under.”

The schools contacted the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OSHAA) to ensure there wouldn’t be any negative effects as a result of playing each other twice before deciding to agree to a one-time non-conference meeting.

In the case of the Railroaders, it was the second time in a three year time span they had no week one game as Yellow Springs cancelled on them before the start of the 2010 season.
