Darke County Fair
Destruction in the fair ends with a bang

Another great year at the Great Darke County Fair came to an end
Saturday and it went out with a boom as Back to Back Promotions
presented the annual demolition derby. Competitors came from as far out
as Sidney to participate this year.
What a better way to end the week.
There were a few new classes this year at the derby.
Back to Back brought stock lawn mowers and modified lawn mowers to our
entertainment. The big cars and minis are always fun to watch and a
derby classic. There was a total of 84 vehicles this year all separated
into 6 different classes. It started with the mowers, then went on to
the minis, and ended with the big, full size cars.
The minis had an amazing turnout this year with a total of 41 entries
in 3 classes. The big cars with 21. The competition was fierce Saturday
night and everyone knew it. With the amount of cars that showed up and
high purses, why wouldn’t it be? There were quite a few big names out
there in the field and many were Darke County natives. The event that
everyone was waiting for though, was the big cars.
The toughest competition came at the end.
The big car feature.
Not a single driver would give up, especially the winner, John Davis,
coming from Houston with a 1967 Chevy Wagon which had been used many
times before.
“The car felt pretty good out there," said Davis. "There was a lot of
hard hitting.”
Davis said he knew when the derby was his to win.
“I saw the other guy’s (second place driver) drive shaft hanging down,”
Davis admitted.
This was his first time winning the derby during the fair, as he’s been
doing derbies for 10 years.
