FM-Arcanum
shows marked improvement
Newton
joins in on three-way scrimmage

PITSBURG
- What a difference a practice can make.
It
was just two days before when Franklin Monroe coach Jodi Bauman was
pointing
out things that need improvement after a four way scrimmage at
Mississinawa
Valley.
At
the end of action that night, Bauman had talked about the lack of
communication
on the floor and kids not knowing where to be in certain rotations.
Thursday,
that was not the case as Bauman watched her team shore up in the areas
that
that needed the most work.
“I
did some switching around with some of my setters,” Bauman. “That
really made a
difference and I had my middle setting my two big guns at the net and
they did
a really nice job at the net and things flowed well.”
The
communication shined for the Jets.
“That
was one of the things we talked about yesterday in practice,” Bauman
pointed
out. “We worked hard on that and the girls know what they have to do
and when
they have to do it out there and it starts by talking to each other.”
In
two days, the Jets have scrimmaged four conference teams (MV, TV,
Newton and
Arcanum) and Bauman says that’s a positive for her team.
“I
really think it works in our favor because it gives the girls live play
against
team in the conference,” Bauman said. “It shows us what our competition
looks
like.”
It
was the second time out for the Lady Trojans as well with the first a
week ago
at TCN.
“We
were at North the first time out,” said Arcanum coach Terri Day. “We
had two
totally different teams than what we had with North the first
scrimmage. I was
very pleased with our play tonight. We have a strong group of incoming
freshman
and they play well. I have a strong core of kids that’s been here for a
while.
I’m excited about the year and so are the kids. They got to watch some
great
volleyball from the Olympics and that has inspired them.”
All
around the court, the Trojans looked solid.
“I’ve
got two kids that play well in the back row and our serve receive was
good
tonight,” Day admitted. “Our setter (Brooke Allen) is our glue. She
knows the
game and loves the game. Our front row is solid. We have some height
this year
and that’s something I’m not use to having. Two of the kids I’ve been
throwing
in on the front row are freshman. They are green and will play both J-V
and
varsity but it’s been a while since we’ve had a tall line-up.”
