CELINA — With the opening kickoff, Celina set the tone for the game
Friday night against Versailles.
In the end, the Tigers suffered a 46-26 loss to the host Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs recovered an onside kick and jumped out to a 7-0 lead. The
Tigers would answer on the ensuing possession but had the extra point
blocked. That was as close as the Tigers would get though as turnovers
and penalties would keep the Tigers from gaining ground on the Bulldogs.
Celina capitalized on Tiger fumbles on their next two possessions to
gain a 21-6 lead just 10 minutes into the game. The Tigers could not
overcome their mistakes and would fall behind 46-14 before outscoring
Celina 12-0 to end the game with a 20-point loss, 46-26, to start their
season with a 0-1 record.
The Tigers put the ball on the ground five times, losing three of the
fumbles. Celina was able to capitalize on the three lost fumbles by the
Tigers and a blocked punt that set up another Bulldog score. Penalties
at key moments also stalled out a couple possessions by the Tigers.
The Tigers will look to rebound at home against Graham Friday night.
Graham gave up 62 points in its loss to Tipp City Friday night. Tipp
City had three 100 yard rushers in the game.
